The wonderful sportsman Matthias Casse is a judoka, who competes in the -81kg weight category. He is a World Champion, a European Games Champion, a World Masters Champion, a 3x IJF Grand Slam Champion, a IJF Grand Prix Champion, and an Olympic medalist.
Born and raised in Belgium, Casse started judo at a young age and began competing at cadet and junior level. When he was 20, he became the World Juniors Champion after taking Gold at the 2017 World Juniors Championships. The same year he took his first senior medal, winning Bronze at the IJF Grand Prix in The Hague. Since then he has taken a further four IJF Grand Prix medals (including Gold in 2022), seven IJF Grand Slam medals (including three Golds), a World Masters Gold and Silver, three European Championships medals, Gold from the European Games in 2019, and two Silvers from the World Championships.
Casse became the first Belgian male judo world champion at the senior level when he won Gold at the 2021 World Championships held in Budapest. That same year he also represented his native Belgium at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics, going on to claim the Bronze medal.
