Originally dubbed Maxi Pads by her then roommate, Kris Elliot thought the name may be too generic for his drag alter ego, so he took his love for Brooke Shields, used her last name and the glamorous, divalicious Maxi Shield was born. 23 years down the track and she still dominates the Sydney as well as international drag scene with no sign of slowing down any time soon. Hailed as the Good Girl of Drag, Maxi is loved and admired by all in the LGBTQ community for her heart of gold and readiness to always help those in need in any way she can.
Maxi is a proud anti-violence safety ambassador and even a rugby union mascot. A true Australian icon, she had the honor of closing the Sydney Olympics in 2000, and two years later opened the Gay Games. The busty blonde has performed at Mardi Gras, Sleaze and multiple other events since the start of her drag days. With a passion for pole dancing Maxi has been the hostess for Miss Pole Dance Australia for 15 years now, and Mr Pole Dance for seven. She’s even had a pole named after her, “The Maxi”.
One of the performer’s greatest career moments happened when she was named Madonna’s National Hostess for the Australian leg of the singer’s Rebel Heart Tour. Maxi was in charge of organising every VIP party, rocked it out on the stage with Madonna herself and appears in the Rebel Heart Tour DVD. Unsurprisingly Maxi was awarded Entertainer of the Year at the Drag Industry Variety Awards. In 2018 the drag sensation starred in Sasha Velour’s Live in Manila Tour. Most recently Maxi hit international screens as a contestant on the first season of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under.
