Michael Pittman Jr. was born on October 5, 1997, in Woodland Hills, CA. He attended Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village, California, where his athletic talent in football became evident. During his senior year, he recorded 81 receptions for 1,990 yards and 24 touchdowns, earning first-team All-America honors from Parade and Max Preps. He also participated in the All-American Bowl. Pittman initially committed to UCLA before ultimately choosing to play college football at the University of Southern California (USC).
At USC, Pittman demonstrated his abilities on both offense and special teams. As a freshman, he contributed with receptions, punt returns, kick returns, a blocked punt, and a forced fumble. His sophomore season saw him record 23 receptions for 404 yards and two touchdowns, along with a punt return for a touchdown and another blocked punt, earning him first-team All-Conference honors as a special teamer. His college career culminated in a stellar senior year in 2019, where he achieved 101 receptions for 1,275 yards and 11 touchdowns. This performance led to him being named first-team All-Pac-12 and a consensus second-team All-America selection. He was also a finalist for the Fred Biletnikoff Award and received the Pop Warner Award, recognizing his impact on and off the field.
Pittman was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, he recorded 40 catches for 503 yards and one touchdown, overcoming an early-season injury. The 2021 season marked a significant professional milestone for Pittman, as he surpassed 1,000 receiving yards, becoming the sixth Colts pass catcher since 2000 to achieve this feat. In 2023, he set a new Colts franchise record for most catches in the first four years of a player’s career with his 314th reception, and also tied Marvin Harrison for the most consecutive games with at least eight receptions in Colts history. For the 2023 season, he finished as the team’s leading receiver with 109 catches for 1,152 yards and four touchdowns. In March 2024, Pittman signed a three-year, $71.5 million contract extension with the Colts, reinforcing his role with the team.
