Miguel Angel Lopez Castro

Miguel Angel Lopez Castro was born on March 25, 1997, in Cienfuegos, Cuba. His interest in volleyball began at the age of seven, inspired by Cuban star Joel Despaigne. By the age of 18, he was recognized as a top prospect and selected for the national volleyball center, “Escuela National de Voleibol” in Havana.

Lopez Castro has achieved significant milestones throughout his career, representing Cuba and playing for prominent clubs. He captained the Cuban national team, participating in the Olympic Games Rio 2016. His international achievements include a gold medal at the 2022 FIVB Challenger Cup and silver medals at the 2019 FIVB Challenger Cup and the 2019 Pan American Games. Domestically, he has played for clubs such as Cienfuegos (2015–2017), Gigantes del Sur (2017–2019), UPCN Vóley Club (2019–2020), and Sada Cruzeiro (2020 onwards). He currently plays for Osaka Bluteon in Japan, making his debut in the @sv.league with @panasonic_panthers.

His club career is marked by several championships, including winning the FIVB Club World Championship in 2021 with Sada Cruzeiro, where he also earned the individual award for Best Outside Hitter and Most Valuable Player. He secured the CSV South American Club Championship in 2022 with Sada Cruzeiro, earning the MVP title for that tournament. Other national titles include the Argentine Cup in 2019/2020 with UPCN Vóley Club and the Brazilian Cup, SuperCup, and Championship in 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 with Sada Cruzeiro. His individual accolades also include multiple ‘Best Outside Hitter’ and ‘Most Valuable Player’ awards across various Pan American Cups and Championships from 2016 to 2022, further solidifying his position as a leading player in volleyball.
