About

Nicholas James Mullen, born December 13, 1988, in Gaithersburg, Maryland, began his comedy career at the age of sixteen in 2005, performing in the Washington–Baltimore Metropolitan Area, often at Wiseacres Comedy Club in Virginia. His early years in comedy included stints in Austin, Texas, and Los Angeles. Mullen’s dedication to stand-up led him to open for notable acts such as Dana Gould, Jim Norton, Patrice O’Neal, and Hannibal Buress. His talent was recognized early, being named “Best of Fest” at the Laugh Detroit festival in 2010. In 2012, he participated in SXSW’s Made in Austin and Weekend Spotlight comedy showcases and was honored as one of the New Faces Unrepped by Montreal’s Just for Laughs festival. He also performed at the 2014 Bentzen Ball in Washington, D.C.

Throughout the mid-2010s, Mullen transitioned to New York City. He expanded his creative output by writing a blog under the heteronym Nicole Mullen on Thought Catalog from 2013 to 2015, and hosted a prank call podcast titled ‘Help Me, I’m Old’. His professional writing credits include ‘Comedy Knockout’ on truTV, the IFC television pilot ‘Make Me Understand with Jim Norton’ in 2016, and ‘Problematic with Moshe Kasher’ for Comedy Central in 2017. During this period, he also made appearances as a guest panelist on Fox News’ ‘Red Eye’. From 2016 to 2022, Mullen gained significant recognition as the co-host of the comedy podcast ‘Cum Town’ alongside Adam Friedland and Stavros Halkias. Following Halkias’ departure, Mullen and Friedland launched a new podcast, ‘The Adam Friedland Show’, with its first episode airing on June 29, 2022.

Mullen continued to develop his stand-up career, culminating in the release of his first comedy special, ‘Nick Mullen: The Year of the Dragon’, in December 2023. This special garnered significant attention, reaching one million views within its first week. His comedy style is characterized by black comedy, shock humor, blue humor, surreal humor, anti-humor, political satire, irony, and focuses on subjects such as internet culture, American politics, Mid-Atlantic culture, pop culture, and everyday life. In his personal life, Mullen has been a vocal supporter of social democratic political positions, advocating for universal health care.
