Nicholas Joseph Viall was born on September 28, 1980, in Waukesha, Wisconsin. The second oldest of 11 siblings, Viall attended Waukesha North High School, where he achieved success in track and field, winning the 800-meter run at the WIAA State Track & Field Championships in 1999. He later continued his athletic pursuits at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, serving as team captain and setting a school record in the 3,200-meter relay.
Viall first entered the public eye as a contestant on ABC’s reality show ‘The Bachelorette’ in 2014, competing for Andi Dorfman’s affection and finishing as the runner-up. He returned to the show in 2015 for Kaitlyn Bristowe’s season, again reaching the final stage before her proposal to another contestant. His continued presence on the ‘Bachelor’ franchise led to his selection as the lead for the 21st season of ‘The Bachelor’ in 2016, a role he undertook after a stint on ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ season 3, where he pursued a relationship with Jen Saviano that did not result in an engagement. On his season of ‘The Bachelor’, Viall proposed to Vanessa Grimaldi, though their engagement ended in August 2017.
Beyond reality television, Viall has expanded his career into acting, appearing in the 2017 Christmas television movie ‘A Christmas Cruise’ and making guest appearances on shows such as ABC’s ‘Speechless’ and TV Land’s ‘Teachers’. He also appeared on ‘General Hospital’ in 2018. In 2019, he launched ‘The Viall Files’ podcast, a venture that has since grown significantly, securing exclusive advertising and hosting partnerships with Libsyn’s AdvertiseCast. In 2018, Viall co-founded Natural Habits Essential Oils with his sister. He continues to appear on television, co-hosting ‘Patti Stanger: The Matchmaker’ in 2024 and hosting the season 2 reunion of ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ for Hulu in 2025. Viall married Natalie Joy in April 2024, and they welcomed their daughter, River Rose, in February 2024.
