Young speedster Oscar Piastri is a professional racing driver, who currently serves as the reserve driver for the Alpine Formula One Team, and is set to join McLaren as a F1 team driver in 2023. He is the 2021 FIA F2 champion, the 2020 FIA F3 champion, and the 2019 Formula Renault Eurocup champion.
Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, Piastri started racing remote controlled cars at a national level before beginning his go-karting career in 2011 when he was 10-years-old. He turned professional in 2014 and competed in various races and championships in Australia, before comping in European karting championships in 2016 with Ricky Flynn Motorsport, and eventually relocated to Britain to further his racing career. He then worked his way through the various racing classes, competing in Formula 4, GP3 Series, and in the Formula Renault Eurocup by the end of 2018. The following year he became the champion after taking a win and fourth place at the final round.
Piastri then moved up to FIA Formula 3, quickly dominating the event and claiming the championship title at the end of the 2020 season. FIA Formula 2 proved to be just as successful and he claimed the championship in his debut season, becoming the first driver to win three consecutive F1 feeder series’ championships. He had joined the Renault Sport Academy in January 202o, and took part in his first F1 test after winning the F3 championship. He remained with the rebranded Alpine Academy, becoming a reserve driver for the Alpine F1 Team. After a dispute with Alpine he is set to join McLaren for the 2023 season as a team driver.
