Owen Hargreaves is a former professional footballer and TV pundit. He is a Canadian citizen, with an English father and a Welsh mother which makes him eligible to represent all three of the countries.
After moving to Germany from Calgary when he was 16 years old, he began his professional career with a debut appearance in 2000 for Bayern Munich, going on to play for the club for seven years. Hargreaves signed for Manchester United in 2007 and had an incredible first season, winning both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League. He became known as a reliable defensive midfielder, often assisting his teammates by tirelessly winning possession of the ball. After a successful few years at the club, and extensive rehabilitation for knee and other leg injuries, the player went on the sign for Manchester City in 2011 for a year. On an international stage, Hargreaves represented Wales in 1998, before playing for England throughout the noughties, and in 2006 became the first player to ever win both England Player of the Year and England Player of the World Cup in the same year.
Since retiring from football, Hargreaves has had a successful career as a TV pundit, covering the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League as a part of the BT Sport team. He’s also covered sport on CNN and the Euro 2016 in France.
