Czech Republic Petr Mrazek is a professional ice hockey goaltender known for his tenure with multiple National Hockey League teams, including the Detroit Red Wings, Carolina Hurricanes, Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks, and Anaheim Ducks.
The Ducks acquired goaltender Petr Mrázek, a 2027 second-round, and 2026 fourth-round selection from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for goaltender John Gibson. This was a trade to acquire a new goaltender.
The Chicago Blackhawks traded forward Craig Smith and goaltender Petr Mrázek to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for forward Joe Veleno.
Petr Mrazek was born on February 14, 1992, in Ostrava, Czechoslovakia. He was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the fifth round, 141st overall, of the 2010 NHL Draft. Before his NHL debut, Mrazek played in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Ottawa 67’s, where he accumulated 62 wins over two seasons. He signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Red Wings on October 19, 2011. Mrazek made his NHL debut with the Detroit Red Wings on February 7, 2013, winning against the St. Louis Blues. In the same season, he also contributed to the Grand Rapids Griffins’ Calder Cup championship in the American Hockey League (AHL), playing in all 24 playoff games. His early career highlighted his potential as a goaltender in professional hockey.
Throughout his career, Mrazek has achieved several milestones and played for multiple NHL organizations. With the Detroit Red Wings, he had a notable season in 2015-16, recording 27 wins with a 2.33 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage in 54 games. He later played for the Philadelphia Flyers during the 2017-18 season before signing with the Carolina Hurricanes on July 1, 2018. In Carolina, he had a productive period, notably leading the team to the Eastern Conference Final in the 2018-19 season with 23 wins and a 2.39 GAA. He continued with the Hurricanes for two more seasons before moving to the Toronto Maple Leafs, signing a three-year, $11.4 million contract on July 28, 2021.
Following his time with the Maple Leafs, Mrazek was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks on July 7, 2022, and later signed a two-year contract extension with the team on January 24, 2024. In the 2023-24 season, he appeared in 56 games for the Blackhawks, posting 18 wins. His career progression includes a return to the Detroit Red Wings on March 7, 2025, and a subsequent trade to the Anaheim Ducks on June 28, 2025. Mrazek has also represented the Czech Republic internationally, earning a bronze medal at the 2012 World Championship and a gold medal at the 2024 World Championship.
