Georgina “Piggy” March, born Georgina French on August 12, 1980, in North Elmham, Norfolk, United Kingdom, has established herself as a prominent figure in eventing. Her nickname “Piggy” originated in her early childhood when her sisters noted her resemblance to Piglet from Winnie-the-Pooh. March’s career in eventing began with smaller competitions, leading to her first championship ride in 2001 at the European Young Riders Championship. There, she secured a 4th place individually and contributed to a team gold medal. This early success laid the groundwork for a career marked by consistent competition at international levels.
Throughout her career, March has achieved notable victories and represented Great Britain in major equestrian events. In 2009, she earned an individual silver medal at the European Championships with her horse Some Day Soon. She continued to compete at the World Equestrian Games in 2010, finishing 14th with Jakata, and later secured a team bronze medal at the 2011 European Championships. A significant turning point in her career was winning the prestigious Badminton Horse Trials in 2019 and the Burghley Horse Trials in 2022, both with her horse Vanir Kamira. These victories cemented her status as one of the sport’s elite riders. March has also developed “Piggy TV,” an online platform offering behind-the-scenes access to training, event reports, and horse care, expanding her reach within the equestrian community.
March’s journey has included participation in numerous CCI 5* competitions and achieving success in multiple international 3* events. She was selected for the 2012 Olympic Games, though unforeseen circumstances with her horse, DHI Topper W, led to her withdrawal. In 2018, she contributed to a team gold medal at the World Equestrian Games, followed by a team silver at the 2019 European Championships. Her horse, Vanir Kamira, played a critical role in some of her most significant wins, including a second-place finish at Burghley in 2017 and 2019, and a third-place finish at Bicton CCI5* in 2021. March’s dedication to the sport is underscored by her continuous participation and achievements across various championships and competitions.
