About

Rebecca Minkoff established her fashion brand in 2005 alongside her brother, Uri Minkoff. Her initial entry into fashion occurred in 2001, when an “I Love New York” T-shirt she designed gained national attention after actress Jenna Elfman wore it on television. This unexpected exposure led to a significant influx of orders, which Minkoff managed by collaborating with an early e-commerce platform and dedicating proceeds to the Red Cross. This period laid the groundwork for her emerging design career.

The turning point for the Rebecca Minkoff brand came in 2005 with the creation of her first handbag, which became known as the “Morning After Bag.” This design, initially created for Jenna Elfman, gained popularity after being featured in Daily Candy, leading to widespread demand and solidifying her presence in the fashion accessories market. Recognizing the burgeoning potential, her brother, Uri Minkoff, joined the company, providing business and operational expertise that complemented Rebecca’s creative vision. The brand expanded its offerings to include footwear, jewelry, and accessories, establishing retail locations in major cities like New York and Los Angeles, and worldwide.

In addition to her design work, Rebecca Minkoff has been an active participant in industry organizations, including the Council of Fashion Designers of America. She has received accolades such as the Breakthrough Designer Award at the Accessories Council Excellence Awards in 2011. Demonstrating her commitment to empowering women in business, Minkoff co-founded the Female Founder Collective in 2018. This initiative aims to support women-led businesses through networking, education, and increased visibility, reflecting her broader engagement beyond fashion design. She also launched a sustainable children’s clothing line, collaborating with Resonance to minimize environmental impact through on-demand production methods. Rebecca Minkoff briefly appeared on The Real Housewives of New York City in 2024 for its fifteenth season.
