The amazing sportsman Ryunosuke Haga is a judoka, who competes in the -100kg weight category. As a 4th dan black belt, he is a World Champion, a 2x IJF Grand Slam Champion, and a 2x IJF Grand Prix Champion, as well as an Olympic medalist.
Born and raised in Japan, Haga started judo at the age of five. He began competing at cadet and junior level, and when he was 19 he became the World Juniors Championships Champion after taking Gold. He also took part in his first IJF Grand Slam that year, winning Bronze. The following year he won two Golds at the 2011 Summer Universiade, for -100kg weight class and Men’s team, and between then and 2019 he claimed a further three IJF Grand Prix medals (including two Golds), three IJF Grand Slam medals (including two Golds), and a World Championships Gold. In 2016 he also represented his native Japan at the Olympic Games in Rio, going on to win Bronze.
Haga regularly connects with his legions of followers and fans through Instagram, posting pictures and comments about his life both on and off the mat.
