Sergio Garcia is a Spanish professional golfer and football chairman. He is one of the most celebrated players in the sport, known for his top rankings and illustrious career in both the PGA Tour and the European Tour.
Born in Borriol, Spain, he had an unusual talent for golf from a young age. He started when he was just three years old, and, under the guidance of his father, who was a professional golf player, continued playing and honing his skill. He made waves as a teenager, gaining successes in European Tour events and then turning pro at 18. He qualified for the Ryder Cup in 1999 unexpectedly, being such a new talent in golfing. Ever since, he has been a prolific player in this championship, having competed from 1999-2012. He has consistently ranked highly in the Official World Golf Rankings, remaining for a large portion of his career in the top ten.
Keen to explore other sporting avenues other than golf, Garcia has channelled his passion for football and experience of sporting competition into becoming the chairman of the Spanish football club in his hometown, CF Borriol. In addition to running the club, he has played as part of the team, debuting in September 2010. He is focused on creating an environment which nurtures and challenges young players, taking an active role in running the club’s Youth Academy.
