Shoaib Bashir has rapidly risen through the cricketing ranks to become a prominent off-spin bowler for England, making significant contributions in Test cricket. After signing a professional contract with Somerset in October 2022, following impressive performances in Second-XI fixtures where he secured nine wickets at an average of 14.11, Shoaib Bashir rapidly ascended through the cricketing ranks. He made his T20 Blast debut for Somerset on June 7, 2023, against Hampshire, followed by his first-class debut on June 11, 2023, against Essex. That same year, Bashir signed a two-year contract extension with Somerset and was a key part of their T20 Blast winning team.

Further cementing his place in the record books, Bashir secured his third Test five-wicket haul (5/41) against the West Indies on July 21, 2024, becoming the youngest England spinner to achieve this milestone on home soil. His ongoing development also includes a planned loan spell with Glamorgan in 2025. Demonstrating sustained excellence, Bashir reached his fiftieth Test wicket in May 2025 during a match against Zimbabwe, becoming the youngest Englishman to achieve this significant milestone.
