About

Simon John Charles Le Bon was born on October 27, 1958, in Bushey, Hertfordshire, England. His early exposure to the arts included a screen test for a Persil advertisement at age six and participation in a local church choir. He also received training as an actor and appeared in several theatre productions, including ‘Tom Brown’s School Days’ in London’s West End, and various television advertisements. Le Bon pursued an art foundation course at Harrow School of Art in 1978 and later studied drama at the University of Birmingham.

Before joining Duran Duran, Le Bon held a position as a theatre porter at Northwick Park Hospital and sang in a punk band named Dog Days. In 1978, he spent time working on a kibbutz in Israel’s Negev desert. His introduction to Duran Duran in May 1980, facilitated by his ex-girlfriend Fiona Kemp, proved to be a pivotal moment. Donning pink leopard-print trousers for his audition, Le Bon presented a notebook of poems, some of which would become foundational lyrics for the band’s early albums. After a successful integration, Duran Duran secured a recording contract with EMI Records within six weeks.

Duran Duran’s debut album, ‘Duran Duran,’ released in 1981, marked the beginning of their prominence within the New Romantic movement. The band quickly released several successful albums, including ‘Rio’ (1982), ‘Seven and the Ragged Tiger’ (1983), and the live album ‘Arena’ (1984), each supported by extensive touring and media promotion. Le Bon participated in the Band Aid charity single “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” in 1984. Throughout his career with Duran Duran, he has been involved in the creation and performance of numerous hit songs and albums, continuing to tour and record new music.
