Simon Le Bon

Simon Le Bon is a renowned musician, best known as the lead vocalist and lyricist for the iconic new wave band Duran Duran. After joining the band in May 1980 and presenting a notebook of poems that would form foundational lyrics for early albums, Duran Duran secured a recording contract with EMI Records within six weeks. Prior to this, Le Bon received acting training, appearing in theatre productions including Tom Brown’s School Days in London’s West End and various television advertisements, and sang in the punk band Dog Days. Duran Duran’s debut album, Duran Duran, released in 1981, marked the beginning of their prominence, swiftly followed by multi-platinum albums Rio (1982) and Seven and the Ragged Tiger (1983).

Building on this early success, Le Bon and Duran Duran released the live album Arena in 1984. The same year, he participated in the star-studded Band Aid charity single ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’. In 1985, Le Bon co-founded the supergroup Arcadia, releasing the critically acclaimed album So Red the Rose. Continuing his prolific work with Duran Duran, he contributed to albums such as Notorious (1986), Big Thing (1988), and Liberty (1990).

Reflecting his significant contributions to music and charity, Simon Le Bon was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2024, the same year he appeared as a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.
