German alpine ski racer Stefan Luitz competes in the World Cup. Although Luitz competes predominantly in giant slalom, he completed both runs in slalom in January 2016 at Kitzbühel, a first in his World Cup career, and placed eighth.
Luitz made his World Cup debut at Adelboden in 2011 and won his first podium in the giant slalom at Val d’Isère, France, in December 2012. He won the bronze medal with the German team at the 2013 World Championships in Schladming. The Allgäu athlete has persevered through numerous setbacks and repeatedly clawed his way back to the top of the international rankings. Luitz won his highlight event, the giant slalom, at the 2018 World Cup at Beaver Creek. In Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, for the 2021 World Championships, Luitz excelled. In addition to placing seventh in the giant slalom and ninth in the parallel event, he took home bronze in the team competition.
Luitz joined the HEAD World Cup Rebels team in 2021. His mother, Petra, has acted as his ski coach, and his father, Ludwig, who is also a national ski teacher and a member of the national alpine ski team, has performed for many years as his ski service guy. Luitz, who enjoys volleyball, surfing, wakeboarding, and bicycling, wed his girlfriend Sarah in May 2021. He keeps up with his fans on Instagram @stefan_luitz, where he boasts more than 39,000 followers.
