Wes Blankenship began his career in journalism after graduating from the University of Georgia in 2012 with a journalism degree focusing on Newspapers. Born in Savannah and raised in Lawrenceville, Georgia, his early passion for storytelling developed as a photojournalist during his college years. His initial role out of college was as a Videojournalist at 13WMAZ in January 2013, where he quickly demonstrated versatility. By late 2013, he was filling in as a Sports Multimedia Journalist and Sports Anchor, a role he transitioned into full-time, anchoring and reporting on local sports news for central Georgia.
Blankenship’s career progressed significantly, moving to 11Alive (WXIA-TV/WATL) in Atlanta, Georgia, from August 2016 to November 2019. Here, he served as a Sports Anchor, Reporter, Host, Producer, Videojournalist, and Social Media Manager, producing award-winning sportscasts and earning nominations for his work as a host and reporter. During this period, he also focused on managing and growing social media followers and engagement across multiple platforms. This experience honed his skills in audience engagement and digital content strategy.
In recent years, Wes has shifted towards content creation and strategy, becoming the Owner and Content Strategist at Big Story, LLC in October 2023. Prior to this, he served as DawgsHQ.com for On3 from January 2022 to October 2023, where he produced and co-hosted YouTube shows and podcasts, growing their YouTube channel to 15,000 subscribers and over a million views in its first dedicated year. He also worked as a Talent & Content Producer for Outsider from March 2021 to March 2023, replicating similar success in YouTube channel growth and social media engagement.
