Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Will Shields is a former NFL star who played offensive guard for the Kansas City Chiefs. He was a consensus All-American and Outland Trophy winner while playing college football for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He never missed a game in 14 seasons while playing for the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs, where he spent his entire professional career. In 2011 and 2015, Shields received inductions into the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame, respectively.
Shields was drafted in the third round of the 1993 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs, after signing with now-Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren as his agent. From 1993 through 2006, Shields was a member of the Chiefs. He started 231 consecutive games at right guard (including playoffs), an NFL record. He went to the Pro Bowl every year from 1995 to 2006, a total of 12 times, a Chiefs team record, and he is tied for the most Pro Bowl appearances with Champ Bailey and Randall McDaniel.
Shields was a key member of the Kansas City Chiefs offensive line, which consistently ranked in the top five in the league in rushing offence. He had five seasons of blocking for 4,000-yard quarterbacks, including Elvis Grbac in 2000 and Trent Green in 2003, 2004, and 2005. Shields announced his retirement from football in April 2007. He owns and operates 68 Inside Sports in Overland Park, Kansas, a gymnasium and sports complex.
