Yeo Jia Min

Yeo Jia Min was born on February 1, 1999, in Singapore. She began playing badminton at the age of seven, influenced by her parents. Her formal training started under former national player Tan Eng Han at Assumption English School. At the age of nine, she won the Under-11 championship title at the 2008 Cheers Age Group Badminton Championships. The following year, she clinched the Under-11 singles title at an international level at the 2009 Li-Ning Youth International, representing Singapore. In 2011, Yeo was selected for the national intermediate squad, progressing to the senior national team three years later. Initially attending Nanyang Girls’ High School, she later transferred to the Singapore Sports School due to the demands of balancing her studies and badminton training commitments.

Yeo Jia Min made her senior tournament debut at the 2013 Singapore Open at age 14. Her career gained momentum with various achievements in junior categories, including winning the Under-15 girls’ singles event at the Badminton Asia Youth U17 & U15 Championships in 2013. In 2015, she earned a bronze medal in the women’s team event at her first SEA Games. Her first senior title came in 2016 at the Vietnam Open Grand Prix, followed by a junior title at the Junior Grand Prix in Jakarta. A significant milestone occurred in June 2017 when she became the World Junior No.1 in girls’ singles, marking the first time a Singaporean badminton player topped the BWF’s ranking system in either junior or senior categories. In 2018, she secured her first World Tour title at the Vietnam Open, and in 2019, she won the Hyderabad Open and advanced to the quarter-finals of the BWF World Championships, a historic first for a female shuttler from Singapore.

In 2021, Yeo Jia Min became an Olympian, competing at the Tokyo Olympics. She qualified for her first BWF World Tour Finals, becoming the first Singaporean to do so. In 2022, she earned two bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham for the women’s singles and mixed team events. Throughout her career, she has consistently competed in high-profile tournaments, including multiple BWF World Tour events, Asian Championships, and SEA Games. In 2023, she won the Polish Open and contributed to another SEA Games team bronze. Her 2024 season included a semi-final finish at the India Open and a breakthrough performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she reached the round of 16, a feat not achieved by a Singaporean woman in singles since 2012.
