Zanele Vimbela

Zanele Vimbela, born on April 28, 1989, in Johannesburg, South Africa, commenced her netball journey focusing on defensive positions, primarily as Goal Keeper (GK) and Goal Defence (GD). She attended Aliwal North High School and later pursued higher education at Nelson Mandela University. Vimbela’s professional career began to gain prominence with her inclusion in the South Africa national netball team, known as the Spar Proteas. Her early career saw her participate in significant international competitions, marking her presence on the global netball stage. She made her full international debut at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014, signaling her arrival as a national representative.

Throughout her career, Vimbela consistently represented South Africa in major tournaments, including the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games, as well as the 2019 Netball World Cup. Her participation in these events contributed to the team’s performance, achieving their highest ever ranking of 4th place at the 2019 Netball World Cup. Beyond international duties, Vimbela also played for clubs in the Netball Superleague, including Team Bath and Strathclyde Sirens. In the 2019-2020 Vitality Netball Superleague season, she played a key defensive role for Strathclyde Sirens, earning ‘Player of the Match’ recognition for her performances. In 2018, she was part of the winning team at the Diamond Challenge. She also gained experience in coaching various sports teams, with a focus on player development, and engages in sports promotion activities. Zanele Vimbela officially concluded her netball playing career, having represented South Africa 56 times as a wing and goal defender.
