Spotify's Fresh Finds Forward and Your Playlist Success | MN2S

A New Layer of Support Beyond the Playlist

Landing a Spotify editorial placement has always been one of the most sought after wins for an independent artist. It brings streams, new listeners, and a genuine badge of credibility. What it has not always brought is a clear next step. You can jump from a few hundred monthly listeners to tens of thousands almost overnight, then have no idea how to keep that audience engaged, no budget to capitalise on it, and no one to call for advice.

Spotify’s new Fresh Finds Forward program, announced on 17 September 2026, is built to close that gap. Rather than treating a playlist placement as the finish line, Spotify is turning it into the start of a year long relationship with roughly 10,000 emerging independent artists every year.

What Fresh Finds Forward Actually Offers

Fresh Finds has spotlighted early career and unsigned artists for more than a decade. According to Spotify, more than 80,000 artists across 127 countries have appeared on its playlists over that time, and past Fresh Finds artists have gone on to earn Best New Artist Grammy nominations in five consecutive years.

As Spotify’s Global Head of Music Content and Partnerships, Joe Hadley, put it when the program launched: “Fresh Finds has always been about finding artists at a pivotal moment and helping them reach new audiences at the right time. We spent years listening to what independent artists actually need, and those conversations shaped what this program would become. Fresh Finds Forward takes everything we’ve learned from a decade of discovery and builds a support system around it, so participating artists aren’t just getting a playlist placement, they’re getting the benefits, resources, and the community to make the most of that moment.”

Fresh Finds Forward builds a proper support structure on top of that reach. If you are accepted onto the program, you get twelve months of access to free studio time at major facilities including Electric Lady Studios in New York, The Lighthouse at Ocean Way in Nashville, and Spotify Studios in Los Angeles, currently limited to artists based in the US. You also get early access to new Spotify for Artists tools, priority consideration for select tour and music video partnerships, a Fresh Finds badge on your artist profile, premium access to LANDR Studio Pro and Splice’s Creator Plan for production and mastering, six months of free therapy through BetterHelp, and invitations to events with Spotify staff, industry professionals, and past Fresh Finds artists. Spotify says the program is free to join and does not change your royalty rate, which matters given how many industry opportunities come with strings attached.

How You Actually Get In

There is no application form for Fresh Finds Forward itself. From January 2026 onward, if you land a spot on an eligible Fresh Finds playlist, you will be invited to join through Spotify for Artists. The door to the program is still the same door it has always been, an editorial placement on Fresh Finds, so understanding the benefits a proper playlist pitching service actually delivers is worth your time before you release anything.

That means getting your unreleased music properly pitched through Spotify for Artists remains the starting point. Spotify’s editorial team, more than 30 editors working across genres from house and dance to hip hop, indie, and Latin, still decides who gets featured, and there is no guaranteed route onto a playlist. What has changed is what happens once you are on one.

Why This Matters If You Are Building Independently

Spotify has not published exactly how it will manage demand if the number of Fresh Finds placements outpaces the roughly 10,000 program spots available each year, so eligibility may well tighten over time. What is already clear is that playlists remain one of the biggest drivers of music discovery, and editorial pitching just became an even more valuable use of your time and attention. If your music has struggled to get picked up before now, it is worth knowing the common reasons tracks get passed over for playlists before your next release.

If you are working without a label machine behind you, the biggest challenge is rarely getting noticed once. It is turning that moment of attention into a career. Fresh Finds Forward is effectively Spotify admitting that discovery on its own is not enough.

Turning A Placement Into A Long Term Career

A Fresh Finds placement, or a spot in the wider program, only pays off if everything else around your release is working too, and that is exactly the stage MN2S Label Services is built for. Getting your royalties collected and your rights registered correctly protects the income a moment like this can generate, and exploring sync licensing opportunities across TV, film, and compilations can turn a single placement into a much longer revenue stream. A proper PR strategy built around securing genuine press coverage keeps the story alive after the algorithm moves on, and a coordinated social media strategy alongside influencer marketing gives new listeners somewhere to go once they have found you. None of it holds together without a brand kit that stays consistent everywhere your music appears. If you are further along and weighing up building a label around your output rather than releasing solo, this kind of moment is exactly when that conversation is worth having.

What To Do Before You Are Invited

You cannot apply directly to Fresh Finds Forward, but you can put yourself in a stronger position to land the Fresh Finds placement that leads to it. Get your release pitched to Spotify’s editorial team early, ideally several weeks before release day, through Spotify for Artists. Keep your artist profile, cover art, and release information complete and consistent. Build a release and PR plan that does not depend on a playlist placement to succeed, because a well run campaign will make any editorial support go further. It also helps to understand how Spotify’s recommendation system actually works, since what gets an artist discovered has shifted significantly in the last couple of years.
