iKon formed in 2015 under YG Entertainment, emerging from the reality survival shows “WIN: Who Is Next” (as “Team B”) and “Mix & Match.” The initial seven-member lineup consisted of B.I, Jay, Song, Bobby, DK, Ju-ne, and Chan. Their debut studio album, “Welcome Back” (2015), achieved significant commercial success, topping the South Korean Gaon Album Chart and producing hit singles such as “My Type” and “Dumb & Dumber.” The album sold over 260,000 copies across Asia and its tracks accumulated over 4.8 million sales, leading to numerous awards at major Asian music ceremonies. This early success established iKon as a prominent group in the K-pop industry.
From 2016 to 2017, iKon expanded their reach with Asian and Japanese tours, releasing singles like “#WYD” and “New Kids: Begin.” Their second studio album, “Return” (2018), featured the lead single “Love Scenario,” which maintained the top position on the Gaon Digital Chart for an unprecedented six weeks and became the year-end chart-topper. This period also saw them complete their “New Kids” album series with additional EPs. In June 2019, B.I departed from the group, transitioning iKon to a six-member formation. Despite this change, they continued to release music, including the EPs “I Decide” (2020) and “Flashback” (2022), with the latter achieving personal bests in one-day and one-week sales. In December 2022, iKon left YG Entertainment and signed with 143 Entertainment in January 2023, subsequently releasing their third studio album, “Take Off” (2023), and embarking on a world tour.
iKon’s career is marked by consistent musical output, significant chart performances, and a strong touring presence. Their journey from a survival show group to a globally recognized act highlights their adaptability and resilience within the competitive K-pop landscape. The group’s members have also engaged in individual projects, including solo music releases and acting roles, contributing to their diverse professional experiences.
