Remy Macaspac Martin, born on June 16, 1998, in Burbank, CA, is an American professional basketball player with dual citizenship in the United States and the Philippines. He began his collegiate basketball career at Arizona State University after attending Sierra Canyon School. During his time at Arizona State from 2017 to 2021, Martin consistently demonstrated his skills as a guard. He earned the Pac-12 Sixth Man of the Year honors as a freshman in 2018. His performance steadily improved, leading to a Second-team All-Pac-12 selection in 2019 and First-team All-Pac-12 selections in both 2020 and 2021. Throughout his tenure at Arizona State, he recorded 38 games with 20 or more points and maintained impressive averages, including 19.1 points per game in his junior and senior years. He declared for the NBA draft twice (2020, 2021) and ultimately entered the transfer portal after the 2020-21 season.
In 2021, Martin transferred to the University of Kansas as a fifth-year super senior. Despite battling a right knee injury throughout parts of the 2021-22 season, he played a crucial role in Kansas’s journey to the NCAA National Championship. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament’s Midwest Regional and delivered key performances, including multiple 20-point games during the tournament. His 14 points, four three-pointers, and a late blocked shot in the National Championship game contributed significantly to Kansas securing its fourth national title against North Carolina. His college career concluded with a total of 2,013 points, 542 assists, and 170 steals across 147 games. He is the third Filipino-American basketball player to win a national championship.
Following his collegiate success, Martin went undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft. He was later drafted 40th overall by the Cleveland Charge in the NBA G League, though he did not make their final roster. He then transitioned to playing professionally in Europe, signing with Lavrio of the Greek Basket League in November 2022, where he averaged 6 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 12 games. In July 2023, Martin joined Keflavík of the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild karla. He made a significant impact by scoring a game-winning three-pointer in October 2023 and, in March 2024, helped Keflavík win the Icelandic Basketball Cup, scoring 23 points in the final. His 2024 season was cut short due to an achilles injury sustained during the playoffs.
