Tessa Virtue is a decorated Canadian ice dancer, Olympic champion, and motivational figure. After becoming the first Canadian ice dance team to win gold at the World Junior Championships in 2006, Tessa Virtue went on to achieve an unparalleled career in figure skating. Her partnership with Scott Moir, which began in 1997, quickly yielded significant early successes, including pre-novice champions at the 2001 Canadian Championships, a bronze medal at the novice level in 2002, and the junior Canadian title in 2004. They also secured a silver medal at the World Junior Championships in 2005 before their historic gold in 2006, marking their readiness for the senior international circuit.
They secured gold in the Olympic figure skating team event and clinched their second individual Olympic gold medal, becoming the most decorated Olympic figure skaters in history with five medals. They formally retired from the sport on September 17, 2019, after 22 years together. Their enduring impact was recognized with their induction into the Order of Canada in 2020 and Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2023, solidifying their status as legends of ice dancing.
