Tracy Morgan

Tracy Jamal Morgan was born on November 10, 1968, in Brooklyn, New York City. He was raised in the Marlboro Houses and Tompkins Houses in Bedford–Stuyvesant. His early life was marked by challenges; he dropped out of DeWitt Clinton High School to care for his ailing father and began performing comedy on the streets after a friend’s murder. This period forged his distinctive comedic style and laid the groundwork for his future career in entertainment.

Morgan gained national recognition as a cast member on the NBC sketch comedy series “Saturday Night Live” from 1996 to 2003, where he created memorable characters such as Astronaut Jones and Brian Fellow. Following his “SNL” tenure, he starred in his own sitcom, “The Tracy Morgan Show,” in 2003. A significant turning point in his career came with his role as Tracy Jordan in the critically acclaimed NBC sitcom “30 Rock” (2006–2013), a performance that earned him a Primetime Emmy Award nomination. His film credits include “The Longest Yard” (2005), “Cop Out” (2010), and voice roles in animated features like “Rio” (2011) and “The Boxtrolls” (2014).

In 2014, Morgan survived a severe traffic collision that left him with significant injuries, including a traumatic brain injury. His recovery journey was extensively documented, culminating in his return to stand-up comedy and television, notably starring in the TBS series “The Last O.G.” (2018–2021). His resilience and continued success were further recognized in 2022 when the New York Friars Club honored him with the Entertainment Icon Award, making him the first Black recipient of this prestigious comedy award. Morgan continues to engage audiences with his unique humor and perspective.
