Trae Young

Born on September 19, 1998, in Lubbock, Texas, Rayford Trae Young was raised in Pampa, Texas, and attended Norman North High School in Norman, Oklahoma. During his high school career, he demonstrated significant talent, averaging 34.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists in his junior year. In his senior year, he averaged 42.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. Young was recognized as a five-star recruit and committed to the Oklahoma Sooners, becoming the university’s first five-star recruit since 2010.

In his single season at the University of Oklahoma (2017–18), Young achieved significant milestones, including tying the NCAA Division I single-game assists record with 22. He also became the only player in NCAA history to lead the league in both points (27.4 per game) and assists (8.7 per game) in a single season. His performance earned him the Wayman Tisdale Award for National Freshman of the Year and a consensus first-team All-American selection. In the 2018 NBA draft, he was selected as the fifth overall pick by the Dallas Mavericks but was traded the same day to the Atlanta Hawks, where he has remained throughout his professional career.

Since joining the Atlanta Hawks in 2018, Young has established himself as a key player. He was unanimously selected to the 2019 NBA All-Rookie First Team. His career has been marked by multiple NBA All-Star selections (2020, 2022, 2024, 2025) and an All-NBA Third Team selection in 2022. He led the Hawks to three playoff appearances, including a notable trip to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021. In the 2024–25 season, Young led the NBA in assists per game with a career-high 11.6 and set a franchise record for total assists in a season with 880. He also became the Hawks’ franchise leader in three-pointers made in February 2024.
