Kasper Asgreen was born on February 8, 1995, in Kolding, Denmark, where he still resides with his wife. His early life was characterized by discipline, having competed in dressage from the age of four until 14. This background instilled in him a foundational work ethic that would later prove crucial in his cycling career. He began cycling at a young age, joining his local club in Kolding, but did not win a race for his first three years in the sport. Despite initial challenges, Asgreen developed a strong passion for cycling, and his progress was rapid.
Asgreen’s professional cycling career began to take shape with his signing to the Danish Continental team Team Waoo in 2016. That same year, he earned second place in both the U23 and senior events at the Danish National Time Trial Championships. In 2017, he secured a U23 time trial victory at the Danish National Championships and the European Road Championships. His consistent performance led him to join the UCI WorldTeam Quick-Step Floors in April 2018, where he immediately contributed to the team’s success, including a victory in the Team Time Trial event at the 2018 UCI Road World Championships.
His career saw significant turning points in subsequent years. In 2019, Asgreen made his debut at the Tour of Flanders, finishing second, and claimed stage wins at the Tour of California and Deutschland Tour, along with his first Danish National Time Trial title. The year 2020 brought a significant win at Kuurne–Brussels–Kuurne and dual national titles in both the Road Race and Time Trial. The pinnacle of his Classics career came in 2021 with victories at the E3 Saxo Bank Classic and the Tour of Flanders, beating Mathieu van der Poel in a sprint finish. In 2023, after a season hampered by injuries and illness in 2022, he re-established his dominance by winning his fourth Danish National Time Trial championship and securing a stage win at the Tour de France.
