Senses Fail recently celebrated their 20th anniversary as a band. Apart from founding frontman Buddy Nielsen, members have come and gone, but during that time, the group have become figureheads of the US post-hardcore rock scene, with eight studio albums to their name, including two numbers ones: 2008’s Life is Not a Waiting Room and 2018’s If There is Light, It Will Find You. Their biggest tracks to date, ‘Can’t Be Saved’ and ‘Calling All Cars’, have been streamed tens of milllions of times each. Their most recent album, 2022’s Hell is in Your Head, was a critically acclaimed re-embrace of their early emo-influenced sound.
Senses Fail formed in New Jersey in 2001. They built a strong local fanbase by gigging anywhere that would have them. This led to a record deal and the release of their first EP. Their debut album, Let it Enfold You, followed in September 2004, eventually selling over 600,000 copies. The band continued to build their reputation through extensive live shows, most notably on the Warped and Taste of Chaos Tours, sharing bills with other influential acts such as My Chemical Romance, Killswitch Engage, and The Used.
2006’s Still Searching proved a breakthrough for the band — and a reward for the relentless touring — featuring what became some of their signature tracks. Fast forward to the 2020s, and Nielsen and the band are still as committed as ever, as the two national tours undertaken to promote Hell is in Your Head proved.
