Genzennial country pop trio Avenue Beat took the world by storm in 2020 when their TikTok video ‘Lowkey F*ck 2020’ hit 11 million views. After the video went viral on the social media platform during the midst of the Covid pandemic, the band wrote new verses and later released the track as a single ‘F2020’. Several celebrities used the song for their own TikTok dances (including Paris Hilton) and the track drew the attention of Will Smith, Sara Bareilles, Scooter Braun and many more A-Listers.
Formed in Quincy, Illinois, Avenue Beat is made up of childhood friends Savana Santos and Sam Backoff who joined forces with Sami Bearden after meeting at a high school theater camp. The trio began to travel to Nashville where they are now based, and began to write music. Their self-titled debut EP and lead track ‘Ruin That for Me’ – co-produced by songwriter Ashley Gorley, producer and songwriter David Garcie and lead singer Santos was dropped in July 2019.
The following year the band released new track ‘I Don’t Really Like Your Boyfriend’ and reached the Spotify Viral Chart Top 50, but it was the viral success of F2020 – perhaps helped by the rising popularity of TikTok during the pandemic – that raised the band’s profile almost overnight.
Named an ‘artist to watch’ by the likes of The Boot, Taste of Country, Sounds Like Nashville and NYCountry Swag, the band have joined CMT’s Next Women of Country Class of 2020 and were listed in the Country Rising 20 by Music Choice. 2020 saw Avenue Beat reach new stratospheric heights, and the trio have only just started on their musical journey.
