With a music career spanning more than half a century, Dave Mason is a singer, songwriter, guitarist and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer. He first rose to prominence with the rock group Traffic but has also recorded and played with some of the most famous musicians to grace the planet, including George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Jimi Hendriz, Steve Winwood, Cass Elliot, Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones, Graham Nash, Leon Russell, Delaney & Bonnie, Fleetwood Mac and David Crosby. As a songwriter he is famous for the Traffic song ‘Feelin’ Alright’ which was also a hit for Joe Cocker.
Mason has played a guitar for as long as he can remember and had founded two bands by the time he was 15. When he was 18 he joined up with the now legendary Steve Winwood, Chris Wood and Jim Capaldi to form the iconic band Traffic. A year later he wrote ‘Feelin’ Alright’, and the success of the track cemented Traffic and Mason’s legacy, going on to influence rock music for the next half a century.
In 1969 Mason left the band to pursue his solo career in America, and went on to write over 100 songs. Three of his albums (Dave Mason, Alone Together and Mariposa De Oro) went gold and Let it Flow went platinum; the latter also spawning top-ten smash hit single ‘We Just Disagree’.
When Mason isn’t touring he continues to write and produce music at home in his studio, and is also the co-founder of non-profit Rock Our Vets. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 as one of Traffic’s founding members.
