Arguably football’s most handsome man, Freddie Ljundberg is a true legend of the game, who spent most of his playing career at Arsenal. He was a model for Calvin Klein underwear until 2007, and has represented such brands as ESPN, Pepsi, Nike, Puma, and L’Oréal. He now works as a coach, and as a football pundit with CBS Sports Golazo!
Born in Vittsjö, Sweden, Karl Frederik Ljundberg later moved to Halmstad with his family, and joined Halmstads BK as a five-year-old such was his talent with a football. At the age of 14 he joined the junior team, and three years later he made his senior debut. After winning several trophies in his years with Halmstad, Ljungberg’s star was on the rise and in 1998 he was signed by Arsenal for £3 million. He won many honours with the London club, including two Premier League titles and three FA Cups. After leaving Arsenal in 2007, he had short spells at West Ham United, and Celtic, and at the Seattle Sounders, and Chicago Fire in the United States. In 2011 he moved to Japan to play for Shimizu S-Pulse, and in 2014 he ended his playing career with the Indian side, Mumbai City. On the international stage, Ljundberg earned 75 caps and represented his country at three UEFA Euros and two FIFA World Cups, and captained Sweden from 2006 to his retirement after Euro 2008. He began his coaching career in 2016, working with the U-15s at Arsenal Academy. He then became assistant coach at VfL Wolfsburg in 2017, before returning to Arsenal in 2018 as the U-23 coach. In 2019 he was promoted to the first-team coaching squad, and for six games acted as interim head-coach. He is now a first-team assistant coach.
