James Sweasy is more than just an addict in long-term recovery; he has become a voice for addicts who aren’t yet strong enough to speak up for themselves. And sometimes a voice for people who aren’t ready to admit that they need treatment for their own substance abuse problems. Sweasy is an advocate in the fight against the outdated stigma which places addicts as taboo subjects for which to speak. He claims that people should no longer feel obligated to remain anonymous in their drug and alcohol issues. Sweasy has made a name for himself as an entrepreneur and motivational speaker based on his personal experiences. He is most recognized for his role as a radio broadcaster on RecoveryRadio.FM and his social media presence on James Sweasy Live.
Sweasy is currently based in Louisville, Kentucky, and is involved in the recovery community there and in the surrounding areas. He can be found speaking about his personal recovery journey and offering hope to individuals in venues ranging from a homeless shelter to the Capitol building. Sweasy is the author of the book “Felon,” his true story of being convicted of a felony at age 20 and the chaos that followed. From felon to nationwide keynote speaker, Sweasy has certainly had a long and arduous journey to recovery.
