A participant in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Qing Ma is a sprint canoe athlete from the People’s Republic of China. She is a frequent participant in International Canoe Federation events and won the silver medal in the K2-500 metre senior event in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Born in 1992 in Zibo, China, she first took up the sport in 2006 under coach Wang Boqing. She graduated from Shandong Sport University and went on to participate in the ICF Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships in 2014, taking the gold in the K4-500 metre U23 sprint. She made her World Cup and World Championships debuts the next year, winning a total of three bronze medals along with silver in the K2-500M. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, she participated in the K2-500M and K4-500M events. Often competing with Ren Wenjun, Ma is a star of ICF World Cups annually. In 2019, she earned gold at the World Championships in the K4-500 metre alongside her teammates.
Qing Ma has received several honors in China. She was named an Elite Athlete by the General Administration of Sport of China in 2013 and earned the title of International Elite Athlete in 2015. With an Olympics appearance and several successful ICF competitions under her belt, Qing Ma is one of China’s finest canoeists and will continue to see success in the future.
