An Olympic champion at 21 years of age, Hannah Neise is a skeleton racer from Germany. She won gold at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. This was the first time in sixteen years that an athlete from a country other than the United Kingdom had won the Olympic gold in skeleton. It was also Germany’s first gold medal in the sport of skeleton at the Winter Olympics.
Neise has been competing since the year 2014. At the Junior World Championships held in St. Moritz in 2021, Neise was one of the competitors and came away with the gold medal. Her participation in the 2022 Winter Olympics for Germany was confirmed in January of that same year. During her first run, Neise recorded a time of 1:02.36, which placed her in eighth place. However, during her second run, she recorded a time of 1:02.19, which placed her in first place during that run and in second place overall. On her third attempt, she was able to achieve a time of 1:01.44, which put her in first place overall. Neise came in first place overall after the fourth run with a time of 1:01.63, giving her a cumulative time of 4:07.62 and allowing her to earn the gold medal for Germany.
The International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) has placed Neise ninth in the world for women’s skeleton racing. You can follow her on Instagram @hannah_nse, where she boasts more than 6,000 followers.
