Madelein Meppelink is a Dutch beach volleyball player who won the 2018 European Championships with her partner Sanne Keizer.
In 2011, Meppelink partnered with Sophie Van Gestel and competed in the London 2012 Summer Olympics. The pair advanced to the round of 16 but unfortunately lost out to Brazil. In 2013 she partnered with Marleen van Iersel and competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics which took place in Rio De Janeiro. Again, Meppelink advanced to the Round of 16, but lost out to Switzerland.
In 2017 Meppelink partnered with Sanne Keizer and the two became something of an unbeatable force. The duo quickly found success and in 2018 won medals on the World Tour twice; a silver medal at the $75K Mersin Open in May and a bronze at the $300K Vienna Major. In the latter tournament, the pair made it to the final four undefeated, including a victory over their top-seeded Canadian opponents, Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes. In the semi-finals, they lost to the 4th seeded
Bárbara Seixas and Fernanda Alves of Brazil but the following day won the bronze medal after defeating Brazil’s Maria Antonelli and Carol Solberg.
Meppelink and Keizer also took part in the 2018 European Championships. The agile duo competed against Switzerland in the gold-medal match, defeating them in straight sets, to win the well-deserved title.
