Canadian freestyle skier Rachael Karker is part of the freestyle national team, and has competed at the X Games and the World Championships.
Karker started skiing when she was young, and grew up competing with her brothers at race events. When she was 10 she gave up the sport to focus on gymnastics, and later trampoline, both of which proved useful later on when she took up park skiing. After trying park skiing with her brother, Karker took up competitive slopestyle and then halfpipe, and since then its been a steady journey to the top for the young athlete. In 2016 she had an impressive season, being named Overall Junior Champion, Women’s Halfpipe Junior Champion and Canada Cup winner. In the same year she was drafted into the Canadian national team, before taking two silver medals at World Cup events in 2018, as well as a gold at the Dew Tour in Breckenridge. The following year Karker continued her great form, with a fourth place finish at the World Cup in Mammoth Mountain and a gold at the X Games, a performance she repeated in 2019.
This rising star has already proved she is one to watch, and has her hopes set on an Olympic debut at the Winter Olympics in Beijing in 2022. Karker is on a winning streak, and her determination and athleticism are a recipe for success in the coming years.
