Terry Gannon is one of the most versatile voices on NBC sports, serving as a play-by-play announcer and host for Olympic figure skating and gymnastics, the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, and a range of other major events golf, skating and college basketball. Thanks to critically acclaimed commentary at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, Gannon, was named NBC Sports’ lead figure skating announcer. Alongside two of his colleagues, Gannon covers all primetime figure skating, even hosting the Closing Ceremony at the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games in 2018.
This gifted sportscaster’s coverage of five Olympic Games for NBC Sports has seen him excel in the role of studio host and play-by-play commentator for figure skating, rowing, golf and canoeing. Gannon joined NBC Sports in 2010, serving as play-by-play announcer on the Golf Channel’s coverage of the PGA Tour. Prior to that, he spent two fruitful decades at ESPN and ABC, covering college football and basketball, figure skating, horse racing, tennis, golf, and the NBA. Gannon acted as host for the 2002 FIFA World Cup and 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup while leading the coverage of the 2004 Indianapolis 500 and 2006 Belmont Stakes and hosting ABC’s Wide World of Sports and college football studio show. He hosted the Tour de France for three consecutive years and was asked to be the play-by-play announcer at the Little League World Series.
Before making an entrance into broadcasting, Gannon was an integral part of the 1983 North Carolina State University Basketball team: during his impressive career on the court, he was made Academic All-American twice and broke records as the team’s all-time leading free-throw shooter, briefly becoming the No 1 three-point shooter in the country in 1983.
