First-generation Haitian-American actor Jean Elie is still early in his career, but has deservedly found his place in the public eye after his moving portrayal of Ahmal Dee in HBO’s critically acclaimed comedy series Insecure. In this role he played Issa Dee’s (brought to life by show creator and all-round creative Issa Rae) gay younger brother, a character that revels in telling it how it is no matter the occasion. This was of particular importance to Elie, who is adamant on subverting tired stereotypes around Black gay men.
Prior to this, Elie garnered a great deal of recognition in 2017 for playing Yves Durand in the third season of ABC’s limited drama series American Crime. His other credits include the BET holiday drama movie Throwback Holiday (2018) with Trey Haley, horror movie The Final Wish (2018), Adult Swim’s satirical The Eric Andre Show as well as the digital series Giants. He also landed a voiceover part on iconic animated series Alvin and the Chipmunks.
A passionate creative, Elie has written, directed and produced content for digital brands and streaming services under the aegis of Bassett House Pictures. Ever hungry for more opportunities to do what he loves and support his family, Elie continues to look for more ways to express himself and his undeniable acting talents, whether it be in short movies, television or the big screen.
