MGMT is an acclaimed American rock band formed in 2002 by Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser while attending Wesleyan University. Initially named The Management, they released two demo albums before rebranding to MGMT. Their breakthrough came with the release of their debut album, *Oracular Spectacular* (2007), which featured hit singles like “Time to Pretend” and “Kids.” The album garnered critical acclaim and commercial success, landing on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Following their debut, MGMT released *Congratulations* (2010), showcasing their evolution in sound and artistic direction. This album was produced by Pete Kember and included the fan-favorite “Flash Delirium.” They toured extensively to promote the album, performing at prestigious venues and festivals, including Coachella and Bonnaroo. Their self-titled third album, released in 2013, marked a shift towards a more experimental style, featuring the single “Alien Days.”
In 2018, MGMT returned with *Little Dark Age*, which received widespread acclaim for its introspective themes and innovative sound. The album’s title track and singles like “When You Die” solidified their status in the indie music scene. In 2019, they transitioned to independence, launching their own label, MGMT Records, and releasing new music, including “In the Afternoon.”
As of 2023, MGMT continues to captivate audiences with their unique blend of psychedelic pop and rock, announcing their upcoming album *Loss of Life* and releasing singles that further showcase their artistic growth. With a rich discography and a reputation for electrifying live performances, MGMT remains a vital force in contemporary music.
