Adrián Fernández Mier is a distinguished Mexican former professional race car driver and co-owner of the successful Fernández Racing team. His racing journey began at the tender age of eight in Mexico City, where he first entered the auto racing scene in 1981. Transitioning to cars at 15, he quickly made a name for himself in the Formula Vee Championship, clinching the title in both 1983 and 1984. His prowess continued in the Formula K Series, where he consistently finished in the top four from 1984 to 1986, showcasing his competitive spirit and skill.
In 1992, Fernández ventured to the United States to compete in the Firestone Indy Lights Championship, where he made an impressive debut by finishing third in points and winning four races, setting a rookie record. His success led him to the CART IndyCar World Series in 1993, where he participated in five races and later secured his first full season in 1994. Throughout his career, he achieved numerous accolades, including multiple top-ten finishes and the prestigious “Athlete of the Year” award in Mexico.
Fernández founded Fernández Racing in 2001, marking a significant milestone in his career as an owner-driver. The team quickly gained recognition, scoring its first victory in 2003 and transitioning to the IndyCar Series in 2004, where they celebrated three wins and a fourth-place finish in the championship. In addition to his racing achievements, Fernández has made significant contributions to the motorsport community, including managing Formula One driver Sergio Pérez.
