American actress and executive producer Caila Marsai Martin is best known for playing Diane Johnson in the hit ABC comedy series Black-ish. For someone so young, she has already captured the hearts of audiences, critics and industry professionals alike. In her short career, she has won a mammoth 15 awards and been nominated for a further 14, including 9 NAACP Image Awards wins and a Young Artists Award.
Martin was born and raised in Little Elm, Texas, and was signed to a talent agency at the age of five. A few years later, her family moved to LA so that she could pursue a career in acting, and she made her film debut in 2016 playing a central role in the Amazon original An American Girl Story – Melody 1963: Love Has to Win. Just three years later, she appeared in her first studio feature, Universal Pictures’ comedy Little. Martin was also an executive producer on the film, making her the youngest person in Hollywood ever to be named as a producer on a feature film.
Martin’s other television credits include Tina Fey and Robert Carlock’s hit show Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and voice performances in Goldie & Bear, The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show, Elena of Avalor, and Vampirina. Martin has an enormous social media following, with an impressive 2.5 million followers on her verified Instagram account and over 125,000 followers on her verified Twitter account. In 2019, Time magazine included her on its Time 100 Next list.
