Michael Clifford is a world famous Australian singer-songwriter and musician who rose to fame as a member of Australian pop rock band 5 Seconds of Summer. The band have sold over 2 million concert tickets around the globe and more than 10 million albums, and are one of Australia’s most successful musical exports of all time with song streams exceeding 7 billion. Clifford is incredibly popular on social media with over 5.2 million followers on Instagram. In 2019 he revealed the Michael Clifford Signature Melody Maker guitar launched in collaboration with legendary guitar manufacturer Gibson.
Hailing from the Quakers Hill suburb of Sydney, Clifford met future band mates Calum Hood, Luke Hemmings and Ashton Irwin whilst at school. The talented musician first become interested in playing guitar through the video game Guitar Hero and began to take acoustic guitar lessons when he was 11.
Clifford, Hemmings and Hood began to post song covers on YouTube in 2011 and eventually added Irwin to the lineup, and after several months the band began to attract attention from publishers and music labels. After signing with Sony/ATV Music Publishing, the band dropped the infectious track ‘She Looks So Perfect’ which went on to top the charts in four different countries. Four internationally successful studio albums followed, and the band’s popularity continues to soar to this day.
Away from the band, Clifford is an avid gamer who has amassed over 65k followers on his Twitch account. In 2020 he held a live-stream on the platform to raise money for the Australian Red Cross following the Australian Bushfires.
