Gazzy Fabio Garcia, known professionally as Lil Pump, was born on August 17, 2000, in Miami, Florida. His parents, who are from Colombia, divorced when he was six years old. During his early life, Garcia was introduced to Omar Pineiro, known as Smokepurpp, by his cousin, Lil Ominous, and they eventually became collaborators. Garcia and Pineiro faced expulsions from multiple schools. Garcia then enrolled in an opportunity high school but was expelled in the tenth grade due to fighting and inciting a riot.
Lil Pump’s music career officially began in 2015 when Smokepurpp produced a track and asked Garcia to freestyle over it. This led to his debut single, “Lil Pump,” released independently on SoundCloud in 2016. He quickly followed this with other singles like “Elementary,” “Ignorant,” “Gang Shit,” and “Drum$tick,” each accumulating over three million streams. This success garnered him recognition within the South Florida underground rap scene, specifically in the style known as “SoundCloud rap.” He co-headlined the No Jumper tour in 2016 and also performed at the Rolling Loud Festival. During this period, he also connected with other artists such as XXXTentacion, Ski Mask the Slump God, Fat Nick, and Pouya.
Garcia gained significant attention in 2017 with the release of “D Rose” and “Boss,” which became major hits on SoundCloud, amassing a combined 70 million streams. The popularity of “D Rose” resulted in a music video produced by Cole Bennett, also known as Lyrical Lemonade. On June 9, 2017, Garcia signed a record deal with Tha Lights Global and Warner Records, just two months before his seventeenth birthday. His song “Gucci Gang” became his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number three on November 8, 2017. The track was certified quintuple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). His self-titled debut studio album, released on October 6, 2017, featured collaborations with artists like Smokepurpp, Gucci Mane, Lil Yachty, Chief Keef, Rick Ross, and 2 Chainz.
