Camilla Belle Routh was born on October 2, 1986, in Los Angeles, California. Her mother, Deborah Cristina Gould, is Brazilian, and her father, Jack Wesley Routh, is an American country musician and construction company owner. Belle, an only child, was named after a character from her mother’s favorite Brazilian soap opera, “Cavalo de Aço” (1973). She attended St. Paul’s Catholic Elementary School and later the Marlborough School in Los Angeles, where she studied classical piano and developed fluency in Portuguese. Her career in entertainment began at a very young age, appearing in a national print commercial before her first birthday and transitioning into television commercials for major brands such as Cabbage Patch Kids, Campbell’s Soup, and the Public Broadcasting System.

Belle’s acting career commenced with television movies such as “Trouble Shooters: Trapped Beneath the Earth” (1993) and “Empty Cradle” (1993). Her early film roles included “A Little Princess” (1995) and “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” (1997), where she played Cathy Bowman. She gained further recognition for her performance as a young Sally Owens in “Practical Magic” (1998), earning a Young Artist Award nomination. After taking a brief hiatus to focus on her education, Belle returned to acting in her mid-teens, taking on significant roles like Rose Slavin in “The Ballad of Jack and Rose” (2005) and Dot in the critically acclaimed independent film “The Quiet” (2005). She starred in the remake of “When a Stranger Calls” (2006), which grossed $67.1 million worldwide, and later achieved broader exposure as Evolet in Roland Emmerich’s “10,000 BC” (2008), a film that earned $269 million globally.

Beyond her acting achievements, Camilla Belle has engaged in various fashion and philanthropic endeavors. From 2006 to 2008, she modeled for Vera Wang’s Princess fragrance and has appeared in advertisements for brands like Nespresso and Cotton Incorporated. She served as an international spokesperson for “Kids With A Cause,” an organization dedicated to helping children in need. Her commitment to education is evident by her temporary departure from acting at age 13 to concentrate on her studies. In recent years, Belle has continued to work in television, with roles such as Pearl Serrano in “Law & Order: Organized Crime” (2022) and Melyssa in “Dollface” (2019), and starred in the Netflix original film “Carter” (2022) and Tubi’s romantic comedy “10 Truths About Love” (2022). She has also ventured into production and directing, serving as an executive producer for “Looking at the Stars” (2016) and directing a segment of the film “Phobias” (2021).
