The wonderfully gifted Georgia Stanway is a professional footballer who plays as a forward for Manchester City in the FA Women’s Super League as well as for the England Women’s national team. In 2019 she was awarded the PFA Women’s Young Player of the Year. She was also EA Sports’s first English women’s FIFA 21 ambassador.
Born and raised in Barrow-in-Furness, Stanway always had a passion and a natural talent for football. She moved to Lancashire at 16 where she joined Blackburn Rovers and worked her way through their youth system eventually turning out for the senior squad. In July 2015 she moved to Manchester City and made her senior debut a few weeks later. She scored her first goal a month later and ended the season with the club’s Rising Star award. In 2016 she won the Nissan Goal of the Season award, and her performances during the 2017-18 season saw her named in the UEFA Women’s Champions League Team of the Season. She was awarded the PFA Women’s Young Player of the Year for the 2018-19 season. Internationally, Stanway has represented England at various youth levels since 2014. In 2016 she captained the England U17 side to a Bronze medal in the Euros. In 2018 she helped England to another Bronze in the U20 World Cup and was also the winner of the Silver Boot. She made her senior debut in November 2018.
