Harold Apples is the co-founder of super-cool design company National Dry Goods. Apples has always been interested in the arts, and in college followed an design/art student path while also exploring music with friends. Everything about being in a band directly affected and greatly aided his design career: he had to learn to work well with others and compromise on an outcome that he still wanted to be proud of, as well as realizing how hard one has to work to make good things happen and to get noticed.
After ten years of playing in a band, Apples settled down, married, and started his first professional work at a Denver-based advertising agency. He became aware that working for a small design firm can be extremely draining, time-consuming, and difficult because you want to get home at a reasonable hour and being slow doesn’t assist you. The agency world helped him become a speedier and more focused designer.
In 2017, Apples and his friend David Scifres founded the design company National Dry Goods. The company is their attempt to start leveraging their talents and offer them an excuse to work with their favourite artists on new product ideas and graphics. Apples and Scifres both have a passion for producing tangible things, promotion, and design. They intend to grow a brand slowly and steadily with the express objective of elevating unique artists and bringing their work together with professional designers to create thoughtful and well-made products.
