One of Britain’s most recognisable and charismatic former athletes, Jamie Baulch made his debut for the Great Britain & Northern Ireland team in 1991 at a junior athletics event in Spain. He burst onto the scene, winning the 200m men’s race and breaking the record for his country, Wales, in the same event.
In the first year that he ran the 400m distance he was selected to represent Great Britain & Northern Ireland in the Olympic Games at Atlanta in 1996; in the 4 x 400m race he picked up a silver medal.
The runner’s distinctive bleached blonde dreadlocks saw him pick up an advertising campaign for Vidal Sassoon, as well as an impressive 11 Olympic Games, World Championship, European Championship and Commonwealth Games medals.
More recently, he has explored his personal story in a couple of popular documentaries for the BBC about adoption. In one, he goes in search of his birth mother, in the other, looking for his birth father.
Jamie still holds the British indoor record over 400m, set more than 20 years ago and since retiring from athletics has pursued several successful business ventures including producing a range of Welsh rugby memorabilia and the Jamie Baulch Academy.
As someone who has been at the top of his game he’s a brilliant motivational speaker on the virtues of hard work and perseverance who’s sure to make a real impact.
