American golfer John Daly is a popular and intriguing star who brings his charm and charisma to plenty of events and ceremonies as an after dinner speaker. Known for the impressive distances he can drive the ball off the tee, as well as his non-standard golfing attire and larger than life character, John is the only man from either America or Europe to never have played in the Ryder Cup despite having won two major championships.
Daly’s last victory came in 2004 in San Diego on the PGA Tour, but his most famous one came more than a decade earlier. As a rather unknown golfer he managed to win the 1991 PGA Championship against all odds, and managed to repeat the feat by beating Costantino Rocca in the play-off final of the 1995 British Open. John has a formal partnership with Loudmouth Golf – a clothing company who make brightly coloured and vividly pattered golfing trousers, and is also known for his close involvement with a number of charities. He has also donated plenty of money and is an active supporter of the sports programs at the University of Arkansas. Amazingly, he also wrote an album for Long Ball Records in 2010 featuring covers of Bob Dylan’s Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door.
