Lauren Spencer-Smith, born in Portsmouth, England on September 28, 2003, moved to Canada at age three where she discovered her passion for music. Her first public performance was at age six, though her parents noted she had been singing since she could speak. In 2014, she joined YouTube, posting covers and gaining attention, including an invitation to Steve Harvey’s show after her 2019 cover of “Always Remember Us This Way.” Her early career also saw her 2019 live album, “Unplugged, Vol. 1,” nominated for a Juno Award in 2020 for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year.
Her career progressed with her participation in the eighteenth season of “American Idol” in 2020, where she reached the Top 20. Following this, her social media presence significantly expanded. A turning point came in January 2022 when a demo of her song “Fingers Crossed” went viral on TikTok, receiving over 30 million views before its official release and 10 to 15 million streams within 12 hours. This led to international recognition, with the song reaching the top 20 in multiple countries, and the top 10 in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. She followed this success with her single “Flowers” in April 2022, also charting in several countries.
Spencer-Smith signed a global publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music and a label deal with Island Records and Republic Records. Her debut studio album, “Mirror,” released in 2023, features “Fingers Crossed” and “Flowers” among its 15 tracks. She has embarked on two world tours, the “Mirror Tour” in 2023 and “The Art of Being a Mess World Tour” in 2025-2026, performing across North America, Europe, and Oceania. Her authenticity and rapid rise to fame have drawn comparisons to artists like Olivia Rodrigo.
