About

Michael David Brown, professionally known as Michael Ealy, was born on August 3, 1973, in Washington, D.C., and raised in Silver Spring, Maryland. After attending Springbrook High School, he pursued higher education at the University of Maryland, College Park, graduating in 1996 with a degree in English. His early career began in the late 1990s with appearances in various off-Broadway stage productions. Ealy’s transition into film included roles in “Bad Company” (2002) and “Kissing Jessica Stein” (2001). His breakout moment arrived in 2002 with the film “Barbershop,” where he portrayed the character of Ricky Nash, a role he reprised in the 2004 sequel, “Barbershop 2: Back in Business.”

Continuously building his filmography, Ealy appeared in “2 Fast 2 Furious” (2003) as Slap Jack and later in “Never Die Alone” (2004) alongside DMX. His television work expanded significantly in 2005 when he co-starred in “Their Eyes Were Watching God,” a film produced by Oprah Winfrey and Quincy Jones, featuring Halle Berry. That same year marked his role in the independent film “Jellysmoke.” Ealy also became known for his performance in the Showtime series “Sleeper Cell,” airing its first season in 2005 and its second, “Sleeper Cell: American Terror,” in 2006. His acting earned him a Golden Globe Award nomination in 2006 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for his work in “Sleeper Cell: American Terror.” He later appeared in the film “Seven Pounds” (2008) with Will Smith and in Beyoncé’s “Halo” music video (2009).

Ealy’s career continued to evolve with roles such as attorney Derrick Bond in “The Good Wife” (2010), Jake Attica in the action film “Takers” (2010), and Travis Marks in USA Network’s “Common Law” (2012). He was part of the ensemble cast in “Think Like a Man” (2012) and its sequel “Think Like a Man Too” (2014), also featuring in the 2014 remake of “About Last Night.” In television, he took on the co-lead role of Dorian in the Fox series “Almost Human” (2013-2014) and portrayed serial killer Theo in “The Following” (2015). More recently, he starred as Eric Warner in “Secrets and Lies” (2016) and Justin Talbot in “Being Mary Jane” (2017-2019). His work in 2019 included a role in “Stumptown” and significant film appearances in “The Intruder” (2019) and “Jacob’s Ladder” (2019). Most recently, he appeared as Detective Don Carter in “Power Book II: Ghost” (2024).
